From the town of Crested Butte, drive 2 miles SE on Highway 135. Turn left off the highway on the well-signed Brush Creek Road (signs indicate “AIRPORT”). Drive the Brush Creek Road 3 miles to snow closure at Cold Spring Ranch (8,960 feet). Snowmobiles pack the road up several miles farther; therefore, using a snowmobile for access can work well here. Rougher terrain and sidehills stop most sleds about 3 miles past winter closure. Cell phone coverage is spotty in this area, so have a pre-arranged ride if you’re ending your trip at this trailhead.
